Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) has launched extensive maintenance work as part of Karachi water supply maintenance to improve transmission systems and address longstanding issues affecting daily water distribution.

According to KW&SC officials, the Haleji Conduit and channel will also undergo desilting and maintenance from December 24 to December 27 under a pre-approved schedule.

Officials explained that heavy accumulation of mud and silt over time severely restricted water flow, reducing volumes reaching the Gharo Pump House and affecting citywide supply efficiency.

They said desilting had become unavoidable to restore operational efficiency, protect infrastructure, and ensure smoother water transmission during peak demand periods across Karachi citywide communities.

During the maintenance phase, residents in several areas should prepare for temporary water shortages as pumping and transmission operations are partially suspended across Karachi districts.

Affected localities include Ibrahim Hyderi, Malir, Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony, Sindhi Goth, PAF, SPL, PIA, and the 9th Mile area near Karsaz according to officials today.

The Gharo Pumping Station supplies around 30 million gallons of water daily, playing a vital role in supporting Karachi’s overall municipal water network and households citywide.

Karachi’s total daily water supply averages nearly 650 million gallons, but officials estimate it may temporarily drop to about 620 million gallons during maintenance operations this week.

KW&SC stated that Karachi water supply maintenance measures are essential for long-term reliability, helping prevent future disruptions caused by neglected infrastructure and sediment buildup within pipelines.

The water utility urged citizens to conserve available water during the disruption and cooperate fully, assuring that teams will work continuously to meet deadlines without unnecessary delays.
