The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has released a list of 715 buildings across Sindh that have been declared unsafe and unfit for living or use by its Technical Committee on Dangerous Buildings.

According to the SBCA, the action is being carried out on the special directives of Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.

Authorities have begun evacuating residents from hazardous structures, while demolition work is being conducted in phases.

Several dilapidated buildings in Karachi have already been demolished, while demolition operations are ongoing at other dangerous sites, the SBCA said.

Of the total 715 unsafe buildings, 563 are located in Karachi, 81 in Hyderabad, 60 in Sukkur, seven in Mirpurkhas, and four in the Larkana region.

Within Karachi, District South has the highest number of dangerous buildings at 422.

Other affected districts include Central with 72 buildings, Keamari 28, Korangi 18, East 16, and Malir five.

In the second phase of the operation, warning banners will be installed on unsafe buildings, and public announcements will be made through loudspeakers to alert residents.

The campaign aims to raise public awareness and warn occupants about the risks associated with staying in such structures.

The SBCA has urged citizens, on humanitarian grounds, to report any dilapidated, substandard, or illegal buildings in densely populated areas.
