Karachi’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) carried out a major operation after raiding Qadri House, as part of a crackdown on organized crime, leading to arrests linked to a notorious extortion network.

SSP SIU Dr Imran Khan addressed the media at the CIA Centre, briefing journalists about details of the overnight operation and its significance for Karachi’s law and order situation.

During the press conference, Dr Imran Khan said the action was taken following credible intelligence, aiming to dismantle an organized extortion racket operating across several Karachi neighborhoods.

He stated that a total of nine suspects were arrested during the operation, including three most-wanted criminals considered central figures within the extortion network.

Among those arrested were three shooters who allegedly carried out armed attacks to intimidate victims and enforce extortion demands, according to investigators involved in the case.

The SIU registered ten criminal cases against the arrested suspects, covering charges related to extortion, attempted murder, illegal weapons possession, and involvement in organized crime activities.

Dr Imran Khan identified Wasiullah Lakho and Abdul Samad Kathiawadi as key operators of the extortion network, describing them as influential figures behind multiple criminal incidents.

According to police, these individuals managed a large-scale extortion operation, targeting traders, business owners, and residents in different parts of Karachi through threats and violence.

The SSP revealed that Rehanuddin, another major suspect linked to the network, was arrested two days earlier following an encounter with law enforcement officials.

He said the accused opened fire on police in the Jamshed Quarters area, prompting retaliatory action that led to his arrest and recovery of weapons.

The SIU chief further disclosed that the unit had taken 17 people into custody from the Rizvia area during a related operation conducted a day earlier.

After preliminary investigations, several detainees were released, while others were formally arrested based on evidence linking them to criminal activities.

Dr Imran Khan noted that eight of the arrested suspects were found to have previous criminal records, indicating repeated involvement in serious offenses.

Police records showed past cases involving robbery, extortion, weapons possession, and violent crimes, strengthening the case against the accused individuals.

The investigation also led to the arrest of three facilitators who allegedly provided logistical support to the extortion network.

Among the facilitators, Shoaib Tahir was named as a prominent figure who assisted suspects by arranging hideouts, communication, and financial transfers.

The SSP highlighted that facilitators play a critical role in sustaining criminal networks and will be dealt with strictly under the law. The SSP concluded that the crackdown reflects the SIU’s commitment to improving security and curbing crime in Karachi through sustained action.
