India released another propaganda-filled film against Pakistan, ‘Dhurandhar’, calling it ‘inspired by true events’, which plunged into the illusion by portraying Karachi’s Lyari as hub of spying and cross-border terrorism.

After facing military setbacks, including defeats in past wars and operational challenges, India once again turns to Bollywood to rewrite the narrative, portraying itself as victorious while downplaying its losses against Pakistan in a movie “Dhurandhar”.

The trailer of the upcoming Bollywood film Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal, has sparked controversy for its portrayal of characters and the armed forces of Pakistan.

Arjun Rampal plays Major Iqbal of Pakistan’s ISI, depicted as the victim of brutal interrogation by Indian agents.

Other characters include R. Madhavan as Ajay Sanyal, head of R&AW; Akshaye Khanna as the villainous Rehman Dakait; and Sanjay Dutt as SP Chaudhry Aslam Khan Swati, a Sindh police officer portrayed in a negative light.

Ranveer Singh appears as an undercover Indian agent seeking revenge, reportedly inspired by Major Mohit Sharma, who infiltrated terror networks in Pakistan.

The trailer also briefly touches on Pakistan’s political history, featuring former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s photograph in a rally, which reflects her support for Rehman Dakait.

The film has raised concerns in Pakistan, as it presents a one-sided narrative in which Pakistani military and intelligence figures are portrayed as weak or villainous.

People note that Bollywood has often used cinema to exaggerate India’s victories, even following real-world setbacks like military losses or the crash of fighter jets, as a way to rewrite history for domestic audiences.

Observers in Pakistan argue that films like Dhurandhar oversimplify complex conflicts and historical events, turning them into entertainment while distorting reality.

They caution that such portrayals risk spreading a biased narrative and deepening misunderstandings between the two countries.
