Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his happiness over the return of international cricket to Faisalabad as Pakistan took on South Africa in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Iqbal Cricket Stadium.
Sharing his excitement on social media platform X, Naqvi wrote, “After 17 long years, international cricket finally returns to Faisalabad! 🏏 Delighted to see the excitement as Pakistan and South Africa begin the ODI series here in Pakistan’s own ‘Manchester.’”

“The passion of Faisalabad’s people for cricket is truly unmatched. Insha’Allah, Faisalabad will continue to host international matches in the future 🇵🇰,” he added.
The occasion marked a significant moment for the city, which last hosted a One Day International on April 11, 2008, when Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets at the same venue.
All three ODIs of the series are being played in Faisalabad, with the remaining matches scheduled for November 6 and 8.

The contest follows Pakistan’s recent home performances, a drawn two-match Test series and a 2-1 T20I victory over the Proteas, where former captain Babar Azam played a crucial role in Lahore.
Historically, Pakistan and South Africa have faced each other 87 times in ODIs.
Pakistan have won 34 matches, while South Africa have claimed victory in 52, with one game ending without a result.

In Faisalabad, the two sides have met three times before — Pakistan won in 1994 and 2007, while South Africa secured a win in 2003.
South Africa got off to a strong start in the opening match of the series, reaching 62 without loss after 10 overs.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius led the way with confident stroke play, while Quinton de Kock provided steady support at the other end.
