The Pakistan Cricket Board revealed a special pink-themed kit for the opening T20 International against South Africa, which will be played in Rawalpindi on October 28.

The initiative is part of the global #PINKtober campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released the pictures of the squad in the new kit with the message: “Turning pink for a cause that matters! 🎀.”

The board further stated that “Pakistan players to wear pink-themed kits in the first #PAKvSA T20I to raise awareness about breast cancer, as part of the #PINKtober initiative.”

Under this campaign, Pakistan will take the field in custom-designed pink jerseys, while South African players, match officials, commentators and support staff will wear pink ribbons to raise awareness for those affected by the disease.

The stumps will also carry pink branding, and awareness messages will be displayed on digital screens throughout the stadium.

PCB CEO Sumair Ahmed Syed said the cricket board wanted to use the sport’s reach to highlight an issue that affects thousands of families every year.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board takes immense pride in using the power and reach of cricket to create awareness about causes that affect our society,” he said.

“Through the Pink Ribbon campaign, we aim to highlight the importance of early detection and regular screening for breast cancer, which can save countless lives,” he added.

He added that the board remains committed to community-focused initiatives.

This will be the first time PCB is holding a breast cancer awareness match at the international level, although similar “Pink Day” events have been organised in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

After the opening T20I in Rawalpindi, the remaining two matches of the series will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on October 31 and November 1.

The tour will then move to Faisalabad, where a three-match ODI series will be held from November 4 to 8.

It will also mark the return of international cricket to the city, which last hosted an ODI in April 2008.

Pakistan and South Africa have met 24 times in T20Is, with both teams winning 12 matches each, making this series an exciting contest between two evenly matched sides.
