As winter approaches, the reports of unusually severe cold weather in Pakistan are circulating. Here’s what the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has to say about the weather conditions across the country.

In its recent report, the PMD has rejected claims circulating on social media about an extremely cold winter in Pakistan this year, calling them scientifically unfounded and misleading.

In an official clarification, the PMD stated that rainfall across the country is expected to remain normal or slightly below normal during the December to February period.

The department highlighted that no credible data support the forecasts of record-breaking cold.

According to meteorological experts, occasional westerly winds may cause short-lived cold spells in some northern and western regions, but these will not translate into a prolonged or unusually severe winter.

Such fluctuations, the PMD explained, are typical of Pakistan’s seasonal climate patterns.

The department further stated that speculative claims of “extreme cold” circulating on digital platforms lack a scientific basis and are not supported by verified weather models or satellite data.

Citizens were urged to rely on official PMD updates rather than unverified online reports.

Officials noted that La Niña conditions may influence temperature and precipitation patterns this winter, but their impact on Pakistan will be moderate and within the range of climatological norms.

The PMD added that its forecast models are continuously updated using international climate data, ensuring accuracy in seasonal projections. It reaffirmed that Pakistan is not expected to experience record-breaking low temperatures this winter.
