Karachi and other coastal districts of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to receive rain within the next 24 hours as cyclonic storm Shakhti intensifies into a severe system over the Arabian Sea.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the storm is currently located 390 kilometers south-southwest of Karachi. It has strengthened over the northeast Arabian Sea and continues moving westward.
The PMD advisory said Cyclone Shakhti may shift west-southwest towards northwest and adjoining central Arabian Sea by October 5, before recurving east-northeastward and gradually weakening during the next phase.
Under its influence, light to moderate rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms is expected in Karachi, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Jamshoro, Lasbella, Hub, Kech, and Awaran districts throughout Saturday.

The PMD has warned fishermen not to venture into deep sea waters until October 5, as sea conditions are expected to remain rough to very rough with squally winds near the Sindh coast.
Gale-force winds of 90 to 100 km/h, gusting up to 110 km/h, are expected around the cyclone’s center on October 4. Wind intensity could increase further before gradually decreasing after 36 hours.
The cyclone warning center in Karachi is closely monitoring developments and issuing regular updates to ensure timely alerts for coastal residents and authorities.
Meteorologists have also noted that Pakistan is experiencing an unusual extension of the monsoon season, with weather systems from both the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal triggering heavy rains and thunderstorms.
