The recent wave of attacks on Sindh police officers in Karachi has become a major security challenge, with a concerning surge in fatalities during 2025.
Since the beginning of this year, 14 police officers have been killed, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector, raising alarms over the safety of law enforcement personnel in the city.
The latest victim, Constable Saddam, was gunned down on the night of September 17 in Gulshan-e-Maymar. This follows an alarming pattern of attacks on law enforcement in Karachi.
The timeline of attacks on police officers in Karachi in 2025 showed a disturbing picture of the growing violence against law enforcement officials.
On February 12, Constable Khameso Khan was killed in Steel Town, Malir, followed by the killing of CTD Constable Imran Khan on February 15 in Manghopir.
Constable Mohammad Ayub was shot during a robbery in Eidgah, District South, on April 13.

The violence continued in May, with Constable Farooq martyred in Surjani Town on May 19, and Constable Abdul Wajid losing his life during an encounter in the Docks area, Keamari, on May 22.
Just a few days later, on May 28, Constable Zain Ali Raza was targeted and killed near the Boat Basin checkpoint.
On June 1, Constable Shehryar Ali was killed in Yusuf Plaza, District Central, and on June 27, the scorched body of Constable Hajjan was discovered in Sir Syed Bilal Colony.
July saw further losses with Special Protection Unit technician Umair Ali killed in Awami Colony, Korangi, on July 2, followed by the killing of Constable Waseem Akhtar in Site-A, Keamari, on July 11.
In August, the attacks intensified, with ASI Mohammad Khan Abro gunned down in Bin Qasim on August 20, and Head Constable Methro Khan shot while riding his motorcycle in the same area on August 27.
The violence carried on into September, with Head Constable Abdul Karim martyred in Shah Latif Town on September 11, and a Gizri police mobile coming under attack on September 14.
On September 17, Constable Saddam was killed in Gulshan-e-Maymar, and in a separate incident on the same day, a police vehicle was attacked near Seaview’s Do Darya, leading to the abduction of one officer, who was later released.
This wave of targeted killings and ambushes has brought the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and other law enforcement bodies under scrutiny, as the attackers continue to strike with impunity.
Police Chief Javed Alam convened an urgent meeting after the latest attack, questioning senior officers about the measures taken and urging them to expedite efforts to apprehend the culprits.
