Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav displayed sportsmanship during India’s Asia Cup 2025 opener against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Dubai, withdrawing a run-out appeal that could have dismissed batter Junaid Siddique.
The incident occurred in the 13th over of UAE’s innings. Siddique stepped out of his crease after facing a sharp bouncer from Shivam Dube, distracted while signaling something to the umpire.
Indian wicketkeeper Sanju Samson threw down the stumps and appealed, and replays confirmed Siddique was outside his crease.
The big screen showed he was out, leaving the batter visibly uncertain about the decision. At that moment, Suryakumar engaged in a quiet discussion with the on-field umpire.

Moments later, India decided to withdraw the appeal, allowing Siddique to continue his innings despite the clear dismissal.
Why Indian Skipper Withdraw the Appeal?
India’s gesture came after they noticed Siddique was distracted because Dube’s towel slipped during his run-up, unintentionally diverting the batter’s attention and withdraw appeal of a run out giving another lifeline to UAE batter.
Junaid Siddique did not capitalize on the reprieve as he was dismissed later in the same over by another short delivery from Dube, who struck three times in a fiery spell.
