A strong monsoon system continues to persist over Karachi and parts of Sindh, with heavy rains expected to hit the region, according to the recent alert issued by Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The city is expected to experience intermittent rain, wind, and thunderstorms with very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, potentially impacting daily life and urban infrastructure.

Originating over Southwest Rajasthan (India) and adjoining areas of Sindh, the active weather system is sustaining intense monsoon currents, which are likely to keep Karachi under persistent rainfall through Monday and possibly beyond.

According to the PMD, the heavy downpours may lead to urban flooding, especially in low-lying neighborhoods.

Additional hazards include damage to rooftops of kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, and solar panels, with transport disruption also expected due to waterlogged roads and reduced visibility.

Flood Updates:

The Met Office has also advised farmers to adjust their schedules and protect their crops and equipment, as continued rains could affect agricultural operations.

Meanwhile, the River Indus at Guddu is expected to reach very high flood levels between September 8 and 9, while the Sukkur and Kotri barrages, currently at low flood levels, may face worsening conditions if rainfall intensifies further.

The PMD has urged all civic authorities to remain on high alert and implement emergency measures where necessary. Citizens are advised to monitor official updates and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain.
