The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that Karachi will experience thunderstorms and rain starting Saturday evening, coinciding with 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal, as a strong weather system approaches Sindh.

According to officials, a low-pressure system currently positioned over Madhya Pradesh, India, is moving west-northwestward and expected to reach Rajasthan and adjoining Sindh regions by Saturday.

This development will trigger widespread rain-wind and thunderstorm activity across eastern Sindh, with Karachi forecasted to receive rainfall from September 7th to September 11th, occurring intermittently with short breaks.

The PMD warned that heavy showers may cause urban flooding, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and damage to fragile structures such as kacha houses, electricity poles, and solar panels in the city.

Farmers across Sindh have been urged to adjust their agricultural schedules to avoid crop damage, while residents have been advised to take precautionary measures during heavy downpours.

Authorities have been directed to remain on high alert, with civic bodies instructed to ensure timely drainage, emergency preparedness, and rapid response to rain-related hazards in urban areas.

Meanwhile, the irrigation department confirmed that Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri barrages are experiencing low-level floods. River Indus at Guddu is forecasted to reach a “very high flood level” on September 7th.
