The representative of Sindh at the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has warned that the province must prepare for up to 800,000 cusecs of water inflows in the coming days.

Sindh’s IRSA representative, Ehsan Leghari, stated that the peak water flows from the Chenab and Ravi rivers will converge at Panjnad River by September 2, with estimated flows between 650,000 and 700,000 cusecs, creating serious flood risks downstream.

He added that the Indus River’s own flows are expected to remain between 300,000 and 350,000 cusecs, particularly in areas receiving water from the Taunsa and Panjnad barrages.

“When the Panjnad water arrives around September 4, the total flow at Guddu Barrage will likely reach about 750,000 cusecs,” Leghari explained, warning that additional rainfall could increase the peak.

He urged the provincial government to prepare for a “high or very high flood,” stressing that arrangements should be made for 800,000 cusecs to minimize potential damage in low-lying areas.

PMD also predicted more heavy rains across the country in the coming week, raising fears of flooding in rivers, canals, and low-lying regions.

According to PMD, monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal will enter Pakistan on August 29, while westerly winds are expected to follow on August 30.

From August 29 to September 2, heavy rains are predicted in upper and central areas, including Kashmir, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, and surrounding regions, increasing the risk of flooding.

The risk extends to areas such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Swabi, and Mardan. Low-lying parts of Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Peshawar are also on alert.

PMD further warned about possible landslides in hilly regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, and Kashmir, along with damage to weak structures, poles, and billboards during strong winds and rain.Sindh warned to prepare for 800,000 cusecs flood inflows
