The Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) has denied the report of senior journalist Suhail Warraich related to Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, statement related to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) or its founder, Imran Khan, during his recent visit to Brussels, Belgium.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, DG ISPR, refuted claims made by senior journalist, calling the report “fabricated for personal gain” and based on misrepresentation of facts.
The DG ISPR stated that Warraich attended a public event in Brussels where hundreds took photographs with the Army Chief but no discussion regarding PTI or apologies ever took place during the interaction.
“Before publishing such claims, proper verification was essential. Media outlets must act responsibly to avoid spreading misinformation,” Chaudhry stressed, urging news organisations to ensure journalistic integrity while reporting sensitive issues.
Responding to a query on possible action against the media outlet, the DG ISPR maintained that institutions are expected to exercise responsibility and avoid broadcasting unverified or misleading content damaging institutional credibility.
Reiterating the Army’s position on the 9 May violence, Chaudhry highlighted that those involved – masterminds, facilitators, or perpetrators – will face legal consequences. “This is not just an Army issue but a national matter,” he added firmly.
