Heavy rain alert issued for Karachi
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain with thunderstorms in Karachi within three hours, urging civic and emergency institutions to remain on high alert.
Officials cautioned that strong winds and heavy downpours could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas. Motorists and residents are advised to take necessary precautions during the upcoming rain spell.
Earlier today, light to moderate rain lashed several areas, including Airport, Malir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, and North Karachi, while Mayor Murtaza Wahab urged citizens to stay indoors until conditions improve.

Death toll rises to 17
The death toll from rain-related incidents in Karachi has risen to 17 as the devastating impacts of heavy monsoon showers are still on going after the city witnessed urban flooding on Tuesday.
A young man drowned in a ditch near the Northern Bypass, a body was found submerged in water at a house in PECHS, while another person drowned in a ditch on the Super High. A woman among others got injured in a wall collapse in Gulistan-e-Jauhar died during medical assitance, while the death toll in the incident has reached 5.
A girl died in a wall collapse in Orangi Town, 6 people died of electrocution in Shah Faisal Colony, Sharaa Faisal, Defense, North Karachi and Gizri.
The drowned bodies of two people have been found in New Karachi Khamisu Goth, Guru Mandir, river and drain.

Army Drains Rainwater at Ghareeb Underpass
Pakistan Army personnel arrived at Ghareeb Underpass, pumping out accumulated rainwater after heavy downpours left the route submerged and unusable for commuters.
The intervention helped restore traffic flow in the area, where vehicles had been stranded due to urban flooding.

Two Brothers Electrocuted Amid Karachi Torrential Rain
Following heavy rain in Karachi after noon, traffic pressure has built up on the FTC–Nursery track of Shahra-e-Faisal, traffic police officials confirmed.
Commuters from FTC to Nursery are advised to take alternative routes through Sindhi Muslim Society and Sharah-e-Qaideen to avoid long delays on the main track.
Traffic police urged citizens to remain patient and follow precautionary measures during travel. Helpline 1915 remains active for assistance in case of traffic-related emergencies across the city.

Traffic Diversion Issued on Shahra-e-Faisal
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon confirmed rain has resumed in Karachi, urging citizens not to leave their homes unless necessary to ensure smooth traffic flow.
He stressed that unnecessary movement on flooded roads creates more difficulties for rescue operations and commuters, advising residents to cooperate with authorities during the ongoing rainfall.
Memon also appealed to parents to stop children from playing in rainwater, warning that such activities could lead to accidents and health risks in the city.

Sharjeel Memon Urges Karachiites to Stay Indoors
Heavy rain has once again lashed Karachi, with Nursery among the most affected areas. Flooded roads have caused severe traffic disruption, leaving commuters struggling to move.
Visibility remains extremely low, adding to the difficulties for motorists. Some stranded vehicles from yesterday’s downpour are still on the roads, further worsening traffic congestion on the road.
At around 2:30 pm on August 20, Karachi witnessed a short but heavy spell of rain in Saddar, Shah Faisal Colony, Scheme 33, Malir and Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
Earlier in the day, Mayor Murtaza Wahab urged residents to remain indoors, adding that roads inundated by yesterday’s downpour have been cleared for traffic flow.
He further stated that the city’s drainage system is prepared to handle 40 millimeters of rainfall. At 3:15 pm, Defence, Clifton, Nazimabad and adjoining areas also reported heavy showers.

Heavy Rain Lashes Karachi’s Nursery Area
Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab said the city’s drainage system can handle up to 40 millimeters of rainfall, but anything beyond this causes overflow and flooding.
He recalled that Karachi experienced devastating rains yesterday, with conditions easing around 12:30 pm. A second spell started at 1:30 pm and continued non-stop until 6:00 pm.
According to Wahab, the city received between 175 and 235 millimeters of rain in 12 hours. Manghopir recorded 235 mm, Gulshan-e-Hadeed 202 mm, and the airport 200 mm.

According to Google Weather, a new spell of rain is likely to begin in Karachi from 2 pm today, with conditions gradually intensifying.
At 12 pm, a 40 percent chance of rainfall was predicted, rising to 80 percent by 2 pm. Showers are expected to continue until 5 pm.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during this period, as heavy rain may worsen urban flooding and traffic disruptions across the city.
