The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has released its official forecast for the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon sighting for the Islamic year 1447 AH, predicting that the crescent will likely be visible in Pakistan on the evening of August 24, 2025.
According to SUPARCO’s astronomical calculations, the new moon will be born on August 23 at 11:06 am. By sunset on August 24, the moon will be approximately 32 hours and 13 minutes old, which increases the likelihood of visibility under clear weather conditions.
Coastal Areas to Witness Earliest Sighting
In coastal regions of Pakistan, the time difference between sunset and moonset will be around 45 minutes, a favorable window for sighting the crescent. If skies remain clear, the first day of Rabi-ul-Awwal is expected to be observed on Monday, August 25, 2025.
Religious Significance
Rabi-ul-Awwal holds deep religious significance for Muslims worldwide as it marks the birth month of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The expected sighting will pave the way for preparations of Eid Milad-un-Nabi, observed annually on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal.
Final Decision by Ruet-e-Hilal Committee
While SUPARCO provides the scientific forecast, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final announcement after reviewing evidence of crescent sightings from across the country.
This alignment between scientific data and traditional moon sighting ensures both accuracy and religious observance in marking the Islamic calendar.
