The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has instructed 14 designated banks to keep selected branches open on Saturday, August 16, for receiving Hajj 2026 applications from intending pilgrims.
According to the SBP, this decision follows a request from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony to ensure smooth collection of applications across the country.
The special banking hours will be from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm.
The extended Saturday operation is aimed at accommodating applicants who may face difficulties visiting banks during regular working days.
Branches designated for Hajj application collection will operate in all provinces and major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Quetta.
The SBP also urged applicants to bring all required documents, including valid CNICs and passports, to avoid delays in processing. This year’s arrangements are part of the government’s effort to improve service delivery and make the Hajj application process more accessible and convenient for the public.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced a special flight operation to transport Arbaeen pilgrims to Iraq, following the government’s ban on road travel to Iran and Iraq due to security concerns.
According to a PIA spokesperson, the special flights will run from August 8 to August 11, with return flights scheduled between August 18 and August 23.
The airline has introduced discounted fares for pilgrims, setting the ticket price at $675.
Ticket sales have already started, and PIA is prepared to add more flights based on demand. “We are monitoring the response closely and ready to increase capacity if needed,” the spokesperson said.
Every year, thousands of Pakistani pilgrims travel overland via Iran to attend Arbaeen in Iraq. However, this year, authorities have restricted road travel due to the security situation in Balochistan.
