The US Consul General has reaffirmed America’s commitment to strengthening educational and business partnerships in visit of Sindh.
United States Consul General Scott Urbom visited Hyderabad and Jamshoro from August 11–12, highlighting the enduring US-Pakistan partnership through engagements with officials, academics, youth, journalists, and business leaders.
Urbom toured the US-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET).
Established in 2014 with $12 million in USAID funding and $10 million in collaboration with the University of Utah, the center leads applied research on Pakistan’s water challenges. It develops solutions, fosters partnerships, and enhances provincial water governance.

The USPCAS-W has awarded 250 scholarships, including 87 to women, for master’s and doctoral degrees. It also trained municipal staff in Jacobabad on solid waste segregation, recycling, and composting.
Urbom praised the center as a model for sustainable cooperation, equipping future generations with skills to address water and environmental issues.
In the business sector, Urbom met with Al Fateh Oil Industries executives, who import American soybeans for poultry feed and cooking oil production.
Poultry manufacturers lauded US soybeans’ higher nutritional quality, saying it reduces production costs and improves the affordability and nutritional value of chicken and eggs for Pakistani consumers.
Urbom also attended Sports Day at the English Access Scholarship Program in Peoples School Jamshoro, which strengthens Pakistani youth’s English and leadership skills.
He joined students in cricket and taekwondo activities, calling the program a source of confidence and new perspectives for young people.
At the National Incubation Center Hyderabad, Urbom participated in a “Meet the US Diplomats” event, interacting with young leaders alongside fellow diplomats Tyrell Walker and Reva Gupta.
The visit concluded with a radio appearance at Mehran University and discussions with journalists on strengthening bilateral ties in education, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.
