The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2025 has been tabled in Pakistan’s National Assembly, aiming to make expelling a wife from her home a punishable offense.
The proposed legislation seeks to protect women from unjust removal by their husbands or any household members, ensuring legal consequences for such actions.
The bill, presented by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lawmaker Sharmila Faruqi, outlines strict penalties.
If a husband or any member of the household forces a woman to leave her home without a justified reason, they could face three to six months of imprisonment along with a fine of up to 200,000 rupees.

During the National Assembly’s Tuesday session, Faruqi introduced amendments to several sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
The proposed changes clearly state that unjustly expelling a woman from her home will be considered a criminal act under the law.
The bill also specifies that offenders may be subject to both imprisonment and monetary penalties. Furthermore, cases related to this offense will be tried by a First Class Magistrate, ensuring quicker judicial proceedings.
The legislation has been officially named the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2025. After being presented, the Deputy Speaker referred it to the relevant parliamentary committee for further review and recommendations before potential approval.
