The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast intensified monsoon activity across the country between August 14 and August 23, with significant rainfall expected in Karachi.
Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department Anjum Nazir said the monsoon rains in Pakistan are not over yet and will “show more colors” in the coming days.
According to Nazir, light to moderate rainfall may occur in isolated areas until August 14.
He mentioned that Islamabad experienced rain yesterday, while Sialkot and nearby areas are likely to receive showers today.
The period from August 14 to August 23 is particularly important due to the potential for heavy downpours in multiple parts of the country.
From August 14, rainfall is expected in Sialkot, Kasur, Narowal, and other northeastern Punjab districts.
Nazir warned that persistent heavy showers could trigger flooding in eastern rivers and increase the risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas.
The rain system is predicted to shift towards southern Pakistan after mid-August.
Between August 17 and August 23, moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated in much of Sindh, with some areas facing the likelihood of very heavy showers.
Karachi is also on the forecast list, where intermittent heavy rain may occur during this period.
Before the onset of rains in Karachi, temperatures are likely to rise from Friday through Sunday. The weather is expected to become more humid, with the rain series possibly starting on the evening or night of August 17.
The Meteorological Department has urged citizens to take precautionary measures, especially in flood-prone areas, and to remain updated with official weather alerts throughout the period.
