On account of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) Chehlum, the Government of Sindh declared a public holiday on August 15.
According to the notification issued by the officials, all public and private educational institutions will remain closed in Sindh on August 15 [Friday].
The decision was taken during the Sub-Committee of the Steering Committee.
The holiday will apply to all public and private educational institutions across the province. Authorities have been directed to circulate the notification to ensure its implementation in all relevant institutions.
Chehlum, which marks the 40th day after the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), a day after Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations.
In addition, the Sindh government has officially declared August 9, 2025, as a public holiday across the province in observance of the Urs of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, one of the most revered Sufi saints and poets in Sindhi history, offering even more time off for Sindh residents.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, Thursday, August 14 will be observed as a nationwide public holiday for Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day.
Although Chehlum is not included in this year’s official list of federal public holidays, provincial governments are expected to declare it a public holiday in major cities, including Karachi and Rawalpindi, as done in previous years
This will be followed by the regular Saturday-Sunday weekend (August 16–17), providing a rare four-day holiday stretch
