A new Sindh Assembly salary bill has been drafted and is expected to be presented in the provincial assembly today.
If passed, the revised salary structure for members of the Sindh Assembly will take effect from July 1, 2025. The bill includes various financial benefits and structural reforms.
These perks include house rent, utility allowances, medical coverage, conveyance allowances, and other special privileges aimed at improving the welfare of elected lawmakers in the province.
Significantly, the Leader of the Opposition will be entitled to receive the same privileges and facilities as a sitting provincial minister, according to the draft bill.
The proposed legislation also includes the creation of a Parliamentary Committee tasked with reviewing and recommending changes in salaries and perks for lawmakers on an annual basis.

Importantly, the Sindh government will be legally required to implement the recommendations made by this committee each year, giving it real power over legislative benefits.
The Chairperson of this Parliamentary Committee will be entitled to an official vehicle, along with a monthly fuel allowance as part of their service privileges.
This new bill also aims to replace the outdated 1974 law that currently governs salaries and perks, with a system more in line with modern-day requirements.
The proposed framework suggests that salary revisions will be made after comparative reviews with other provincial assemblies to ensure consistency across the country.
It also clearly outlines that the government cannot reject the committee’s suggestions, whether for an increase or decrease in salaries and allowances in the future.
Officials say the changes reflect an effort to modernize legislative infrastructure and bring lawmakers’ compensation in line with their responsibilities and national legislative standards.
