Pakistanis can look forward to a welcome break in mid-August, as four consecutive holidays are expected across the country.
According to the calendar of Aug 2025, the Independence Day and Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) fall just before the weekend.
In addition The Sindh government has officially declared August 9, 2025, as a public holiday across the province in observance of the Urs of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, one of the most revered Sufi saints and poets in Sindhi history, offering even more time off for Sindh residents
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, Thursday, August 14 will be observed as a nationwide public holiday for Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day. The following day, Friday, August 15, marks Chehlum, an important religious occasion commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS).
Although Chehlum is not included in this year’s official list of federal public holidays, provincial governments are expected to declare it a public holiday in major cities, including Karachi and Rawalpindi, as done in previous years
This will be followed by the regular Saturday-Sunday weekend (August 16–17), providing a rare four-day holiday stretch

The Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, which draws thousands of devotees from all over Sindh and Pakistan, is held each year in Bhit Shah, the saint’s resting place, “Latif Day” will be observed on August 8 in colleges across the province to honor the teachings, poetry, and philosophy of Shah Latif.
College principals have been instructed to organize events and activities that celebrate the cultural and spiritual heritage of the iconic figure. The occasion is marked by Sufi music, poetry recitations, and spiritual gatherings in honor of the mystic poet
Authorities have been instructed to tighten security arrangements for Independence Day celebrations, Chehlum processions, and Urs gatherings, to ensure peaceful and organized events.
According to a notification issued by the Sindh government, all government offices, educational institutions, and public departments will remain closed on this date to allow citizens to participate in the annual religious and cultural celebrations.
The extended break is expected to boost domestic travel and tourism, while also offering citizens time for family gatherings, religious reflection, and national celebrations.
Hotels and travel services are already seeing a surge in bookings, particularly in Murree, Swat, and northern areas, as people look to make the most of the long weekend
