Dog bite incidents in Karachi have reached alarming levels, with hospitals reporting up to 100 cases daily.
The highest surge has been seen in the summer months of June and July, especially involving children.
According to medical officials, over 2,000 dog bite cases were reported at Civil Hospital Karachi during June and July, while Jinnah Hospital received 1,392 cases in the same period.
Dr. Romana, head of the Rabies and Dog Bite Centre at Civil Hospital, said the most affected areas include Baldia Town, Surjani, and North Karachi.

Civil Hospital is seeing 60–70 new cases daily, while Jinnah Hospital treats 20–30 dog bite victims each day.
“No confirmed case of rabies has been reported so far at Civil Hospital,” said Dr. Romana. “However, vaccination within 24 hours of the bite is critical. Delays can lead to the deadly rabies infection.”
Doctors are urging residents in high-risk areas to be extra cautious and to seek immediate medical attention in case of a bite. The growing number of stray dogs in urban areas has raised serious public health concerns, with calls for the city administration to take swift action.
Local authorities have yet to announce any official dog control measures, despite the rising threat.
