Anti-terrorism court in Karachi has announced its verdict in the Shahid Hamid murder case, nearly 28 years after the incident.
According to local media reports, the court released Minhaj Qazi and Mehmood Ghufran due to lack of evidence. Both were accused in the murder of former Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) Managing Director Shahid Hamid.
The prosecution stated that the main accused, Saulat Mirza, was sentenced to death by the court in 1999. Police later arrested Minhaj Qazi and Mehmood Ghufran in 2016.

The case was registered by the Defence Police against Saulat Mirza, Minhaj Qazi, and others.
Saulat Mirza, who confessed to the crime, was executed in May 2015, sixteen years after being sentenced.
Shahid Hamid was murdered in 1997 near his residence in Karachi’s Defence area. He was killed along with his driver and a security guard. In 1999, Saulat Mirza was arrested at Karachi Airport after arriving from Bangkok.
