A cricket fan wearing a Pakistan team shirt was removed from Old Trafford stadium during the ongoing Test match between India and England.
The fan, Farooq Nazar, said he was watching the match peacefully when security officials approached him and asked him to either cover his Pakistan shirt or leave.
“I was just sitting and enjoying the game,” Farooq told reporters. “Security told me to hide my shirt or change it. When I refused, they escorted me out.”
The incident has sparked controversy on social media, with many questioning why a fan was not allowed to wear a neutral country’s jersey at a public match.
Farooq said he has lodged a formal complaint with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the local authorities, calling the move discriminatory.
“I came here as a cricket lover, not to support any side. Wearing a Pakistan shirt shouldn’t be a problem,” he added.
Neither the ECB nor stadium security has issued an official statement on the matter so far.
The match between India and England has drawn a large crowd, including international cricket fans. Farooq’s removal has raised concerns about inclusivity and freedom of expression at international sporting events.
Cricket fans across platforms have expressed disappointment, saying the sport should remain a unifying force rather than a place for unnecessary restrictions.
As the complaint is reviewed, many await clarification from event organizers regarding dress code policies for spectators.
