Mohsin Naqvi, President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), has called for unity among Asian nations and proposed Bangladesh as host for upcoming ACC activities during a key meeting in Dhaka.

Naqvi, who also chairs the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and serves as Pakistan’s Federal Minister, was warmly welcomed by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam at Dhaka airport.

Addressing the Annual General Meeting, Naqvi said cricket should unite the region. “Let us use the game to bring people together,” he told attendees.

His message received strong applause from member nations, many of whom supported his proposal to nominate Bangladesh as the next ACC activity host.

Naqvi gave two reasons for the proposal: Bangladesh is next in line for the ACC presidency, and its bilateral series with Pakistan could align well with hosting duties.

BCB President Aminul Islam endorsed the idea, saying it reflects the spirit of unity and friendship that cricket should represent in the region.

Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan showed strong cooperation during the meeting, stressing their commitment to keep politics out of cricket and use the sport to promote regional peace.

Afghanistan’s participation, despite domestic political challenges, was praised as a gesture of goodwill and regional cooperation by all attending members.

Delegates from several Asian countries, including Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, China, and the UAE, joined either physically or through virtual platforms to express their support for the ACC’s goals.

However, India’s absence raised concerns. The Board of Control for Cricket in India did not attend, reportedly due to security concerns in Bangladesh and scheduling issues.

Still, the atmosphere in Dhaka remained hopeful, with attendees calling for cricket to remain above political divides and to serve as a unifying force in Asia.
