Actor Shamoon Abbasi has strongly reacted to a statement made by the late actress Humaira Asghar Ali’s mother, who blamed the people of Karachi for ignoring her daughter.
In a recent interview with a local TV channel, Humaira’s parents spoke about her struggles and isolation.
Her mother emotionally accused Karachi residents of being “insensitive” and “heartless,” claiming no one responded to the distress coming from her daughter’s flat.
“I curse the people of Karachi,” she said, adding that despite screams from the apartment, no one checked on Humaira, and people continued their daily routines.
The remarks triggered backlash on social media, with many questioning why the public was being blamed when the family themselves seemed disconnected from Humaira’s life and allegedly even hesitated to claim her body initially.
Responding through video on Instagram, Shamoon Abbasi expressed sympathy for the parents but emphasized their responsibility. “We cannot imagine their pain,” he said, “but when Humaira asked for help, her parents refused. Only after public pressure did her brothers come forward to claim the body.”
Abbasi added that if the family could not travel, they could have sent a relative or asked police for assistance. “Instead, they chose to blame Karachi’s citizens. But the daughter was your responsibility,” he said.
He also revealed that during the crisis, people from the entertainment industry and NGOs stepped forward and were ready to arrange Humaira’s burial if her family continued to remain absent. “These were not just offers, concrete arrangements were being made,” he confirmed.
In closing, Shamoon urged people to stop pointing fingers in times of grief. “Yes, her death is tragic, but the real responsibility for someone dying alone lies with the family, not the entire city.”
Tragic Discovery and Timeline
Humaira’s decomposed body was found in her Defence Phase 6, Karachi apartment on July 8, 2025. She had been living alone in rented flat since moving from Lahore in 2018.
Her body was discovered when a court bailiff arrived to vacate the property after the landlord filed a complaint over unpaid rent. After repeated unanswered knocks, the bailiff broke the door and found her body inside a locked room.
Karachi Police initially estimated she had been dead for about a month. However, further investigation revealed her death likely occurred in October 2024.
Her final social media activity included a Facebook post on September 11, 2024, and an Instagram update on September 30. Her last known phone call also took place in October 2024.
Investigators noted her apartment had no electricity or water, expired food was found in the kitchen, and no candles or backup lights were present. “The electricity was disconnected, pipes were dry and rusted, and the smell eventually faded when a balcony door was left open,” one investigator said.
Family Estrangement
Police records show Humaira’s father had severed ties with her two years prior and initially refused to claim her body. Her remains were eventually handed over to the family on July 11 after the media and public attention intensified.
Humaira rose to fame after winning Veet Miss Super Model in 2024. She gained further popularity with her role in Tamasha Ghar (2022) and appeared in well-known dramas such as Just Married, Ehsaan Faramosh, Guru and Chal Dil Mere. He film credits include Jalaibee (2015) and Love Vaccine (2021)
