The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a public warning about rising cases of fraud through fake WhatsApp messages.

According to the PTA, scammers are using fake WhatsApp accounts to send fraudulent messages containing suspicious links, aiming to trick users into clicking them.

These messages are reportedly being sent from both local and international numbers.

The authority said that users are being misled into closing their WhatsApp accounts or verifying their identity through fake security links – actions that can lead to data theft or account hacking.

PTA has clarified that WhatsApp never sends such messages and advised users to block and report any suspicious numbers immediately.

To stay safe, users are urged to avoid clicking on unknown links and to activate two-step verification for added security.

The PTA also recommended visiting the WhatsApp Help Center for guidance on reporting scams.

The public is encouraged to stay alert and protect their digital security against such fraudulent schemes.
