In light of escalating tensions between the United States and Iran following U.S. involvement in the Iran-Israel conflict, the Trump administration has issued a strict new travel advisory urging American citizens not to travel to Iran under any circumstances.

The U.S. State Department emphasized growing security threats, warning that U.S. citizens especially those with dual American-Iranian nationality face a serious risk of wrongful detention, kidnapping, and harsh punishment, including the death penalty.

In a post on the social media platform X, the U.S. Consulate stated, “U.S. citizens should not travel to Iran under any circumstances. Americans have been kidnapped or arrested in Iran without warning or evidence of a crime.” Officials revealed that some detainees have been imprisoned for years on false charges, subjected to mental abuse, and denied basic legal rights.

State Department spokeswoman Timmy Bruce highlighted at a press briefing that Iran does not recognize dual citizenship and consistently denies consular access to detained Americans. “Just holding a U.S. passport or having links to the U.S. can make someone a target,” she said.

The Trump administration also announced the launch of a new website to increase awareness and caution among U.S. citizens considering travel to Iran.

The warning reflects mounting concerns over the safety of American nationals amid deteriorating U.S.-Iran relations. The administration is calling for heightened vigilance and complete avoidance of travel to the region until further notice.
