A tragic traffic accident on Korangi Road in Defence area of Karachi claimed the lives of two young brothers after a speeding water tanker ran over them.
The accident occurred between Punjab Chowrangi and Kala Pul, with the eyewitnesses stating that the tanker was speeding when it ran over the children.
The victims, 10-year-old Ayan and 11-year-old Tauseef, died on the spot. Both were brothers and were reportedly crossing the road when the accident occurred.
After the crash, the tanker driver fled the scene, while the enraged citizens who had gathered at the site set the water tanker on fire in protest against the reckless driving.
Police arrived shortly afterward and called the fire brigade to control the flames. Law enforcement also shifted the bodies to a nearby hospital for medico-legal procedures.
Earlier this year, the Sindh government imposed restrictions and announced a new strategy to regulate heavy traffic. Despite this, deadly accidents involving large vehicles continue.
Local residents stated that the traffic laws are not being properly enforced. “This isn’t the first time we’ve seen something like this,” said one eyewitness. “The government must act before more lives are lost.”
