In a deeply shocking case that highlights the devastating impact of addiction, a man in Khanewal reportedly lost his two sons in a gambling bet.
According to media sources, the father, identified as Akhtar, is allegedly addicted to both drugs and gambling. When he ran out of money, he gambled away his children, 3-year-old Abdul Rehman and 5-year-old Faizan.
The children’s mother said unknown men came to take the children, claiming her husband had lost them in a bet. When she protested, they left but later returned. “Akhtar came home drunk, beat me, took the children, and threw me out,” she complained
After filing a complaint at the local police station, the woman and her family allege that police officials demanded a bribe instead of acting and arresting the culprits.
The children’s maternal uncle added that even after reporting the incident to the Kahna police station, no action was taken without money.
The family is now pleading for help from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Punjab’s Inspector General of Police to recover the missing children and bring those responsible to justice.
