Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved a Rs100 million grant for the upcoming Asia Cup Wheelchair Cricket Tournament, alongside an annual grant of Rs15 million for the Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Council (PWCC) and a dedicated minibus for the national team.
The announcement was made during a meeting with the two-time Asian champion Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Team at the CM House on Wednesday.
The session was also attended by Education Minister Sardar Shah, Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, Sports Minister Muhammad Bux Mahar, and other key officials, including PWCC President Rukhsana Rajput and team captain Mohammad Zeeshan.
During the briefing, CM Murad was informed about two major events: a Pakistan vs Afghanistan wheelchair cricket series in September and the Wheelchair Cricket Asia Cup 2025, set for October in Karachi and Hyderabad.
Participating nations include Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE, and possibly India.
To ensure smooth preparations, the CM directed immediate renovation of Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad, and assured full government support for making the tournament a success. He praised the team’s achievements, stating:
“Our wheelchair cricket team has made the nation proud. We are committed to hosting the Asia Cup in a grand and dignified manner.”
As a gesture of appreciation, CM Murad presented Sindhi Ajrak and Topi to Captain Mohammad Zeeshan.
The move reflects the Sindh Government’s increasing focus on inclusive sports development and the empowerment of persons with disabilities. With back-to-back Asia Cup titles, Pakistan’s wheelchair cricket team continues to inspire the nation with their resilience and sporting excellence.
