Pakistani students and professionals heading to the UK will no longer need a physical visa sticker on their passports, the British High Commission announced on Monday.
Starting Tuesday, the UK government is introducing a digital immigration system or e-visa for most long-term applicants from Pakistan. The new system replaces traditional visa stickers with a secure online record of immigration status.
An e-visa will serve as proof of a person’s permission to enter and stay in the UK, along with the conditions attached to their stay. Applicants can access their immigration details by logging into a UK Visas and Immigration account.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott shared the development on social media platform X, saying the move will benefit Pakistani students and professionals applying for stays longer than six months.
“This will make the visa process simpler and more secure,” she stated, adding that passports will no longer need to be submitted during processing, allowing applicants to keep their documents with them.
The digital transition is part of the UK’s broader move toward modernizing its immigration system.
