National Assembly member Mahesh Kumar has claimed that WhatsApp voice calls in Karachi are dropping after just one minute, sparking concerns over the quality of mobile and internet services in Pakistan’s largest city.
Speaking during a meeting of the Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecom, Kumar said, “If this is the condition in Karachi, what must it be in South Punjab and Interior Sindh?”
He suggested that Karachi residents regularly face call disruptions, particularly when the call exceeds one minute, calling it a sign of serious digital infrastructure issues in urban areas.
His remarks have drawn attention to the broader state of connectivity in the country, with lawmakers expressing concern over service quality in less developed regions if Karachi is already facing such challenges.
However, independent research by local media contradicts these claims. Several platforms found no credible evidence or widespread user complaints to confirm that WhatsApp calls in Karachi drop after one minute.
While his comments have raised awareness about the need to improve digital services, the specific issue he mentioned remains unverified.
