Chief Meteorologist Amir Haider Leghari has warned of a third spell of monsoon rains expected to hit Karachi starting July 16.
Sea breezes in the city have partially resumed, but fog continues to persist due to low wind speeds, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department. The current foggy conditions are likely to continue, while the weather will remain hot and humid, with chances of drizzle in the morning and at night.
Leghari stated that light rain and drizzle may occur in Karachi during early hours and late evenings. He added that sea breezes are expected to return to normal after July 12.
He further noted that this year’s monsoon season may last until September, extending longer than usual.
Meanwhile, the Met Office has forecast heavy rain with thunderstorms across most parts of the country between July 13 and 17. Cities including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Peshawar, and Sialkot are expected to receive significant rainfall.
Rain and thunderstorms are also likely in northern areas such as Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat, Swat, Mansehra, and Diamer. Authorities have warned of the risk of flooding in local streams and drainage systems due to heavy downpours.
