Pakistan Turkiye aim to boost bilateral trade

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged Turkish companies to expand their investment in Pakistan and support the country’s economic reforms and development goals.

The appeal came during a meeting in Islamabad with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Defence Minister Yasar Güler.

Sharif emphasized the importance of boosting bilateral trade, aiming to reach the $5 billion target agreed upon by both nations. He also said Pakistan is ready to improve ties with Turkiye in areas like business, technology, defense, and investment

Highlighting the strong friendship, shared historical and cultural ties between Pakistan and Turkiye, the prime minister said the two countries have made strong progress in recent years.

He also recall his meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in recent years and said Pakistan desires to turn its relationship with Turkiye into a full strategic partnership.

Looking ahead, the prime minister welcomed the upcoming session of the Pakistan-Turkiye Joint Commission, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Turkish FM Hakan Fidan. He hoped the meeting would speed up collaboration in various sectors.

Addressing the global context, Sharif highlighted the need for strong, closer and better coordination between the two countries, particularly amid ongoing crises in Gaza/Palestine and Iran. He thanked the Turkish leadership for their continuous support, especially during recent tensions with India

In a joint press conference earlier, Dar and Fidan reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in defense, trade, energy, education, and infrastructure.

They also praised the progress of 12 joint committees under the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC), with plans to establish a joint commission to monitor their efforts.
