The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) has issued a warning to all airlines as the risk of bird strikes has increased at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport during the ongoing monsoon season.

In a new Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), the authority has notified airline captains to exercise extreme caution during take-offs and landings due to a surge in bird and insect activity around the airport.

The increase in birds is being linked to monsoon-related weather changes and waste accumulation in nearby areas.

Officials say large flocks of birds, particularly around the airfield, pose a serious hazard to aircraft. Bird strikes can cause severe damage to an aircraft’s engines, windscreens, wings, and in some cases, may even lead to major accidents.

“All pilots are advised to remain vigilant and follow standard procedures to ensure safe flight operations,” the airport authority said.

Bird strikes have long been a seasonal safety concern at Karachi Airport, especially during and after rainfall when birds are drawn to water puddles, open trash, and insect swarms.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is reportedly coordinating with local authorities to manage waste disposal and clear bird-attracting elements near the airport perimeter.
