International Steels Limited Powers Forward with 6.4 MW Solar Shift

International Steels Limited

A Landmark Move Toward Renewable Energy

Karachi, Pakistan – International Steels Limited (ISL), Pakistan’s largest flat steel manufacturer, proudly announced the successful completion of its 6.4 megawatt (MW) solar power project — a landmark step in the company’s transition to renewable energy and a meaningful contribution to global climate resilience efforts.

Launched in 2024 and completed within a year, the solar installation now powers ISL’s production facility and corporate offices with clean, renewable energy. With an estimated annual generation of over 8 million kilowatt-hours (kWh), this initiative significantly reduces ISL’s reliance on fossil fuels and lowers its carbon emissions — directly supporting both national sustainability goals and international environmental commitments.

“This project is a manifestation of our belief in responsible growth,” said CEO ISL – Mr. Samir M. Chinoy. “It aligns with our vision to embed climate consciousness into our core operations while creating long-term value for our stakeholders and our country.”

Energy Impact: Estimated Annual Renewable Energy Generation – 8 Million kWh

This robust generation capacity enables ISL to meet a substantial portion of its operational energy needs through clean sources. Equivalent to the annual electricity use of over 3,000 average Pakistani households, the shift helps slash fossil fuel consumption, improve energy security, and reinforce ISL’s commitment to climate-conscious manufacturing.

The Sustainability Impact: Clean Energy, Clear Commitment

By switching a significant portion of its energy supply to solar, ISL is projected to avoid thousands of metric tons of CO₂ emissions each year. This not only bolsters its environmental performance but also insulates operations from fossil fuel price volatility and power disruptions.

Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals

This milestone supports ISL’s contribution to multiple global SDGs, including:

  • Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
  • Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
  • Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
  • Goal 13: Climate Action

This initiative sets an important precedent for Pakistan’s industrial sector, showing that environmental responsibility and economic viability can go hand in hand. The shift also enhances ISL’s energy security and shields its operations from the unpredictability of fossil fuel markets.

Leading with ESG Strategy and Innovation

ISL’s solar transition is part of its broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy — aligning with global sustainability benchmarks while inspiring a new standard in Pakistan’s industrial landscape. As a key enabler of sustainable progress, ISL is not just manufacturing steel — it is shaping a resilient, low-carbon future for generations to come.
