The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has announced a major expansion plan to upgrade the country’s aviation infrastructure, as reported by media.
The plan includes the development of three new airports and the complete reconstruction of Sukkur Airport, aiming to improve air travel and support economic growth in less-developed regions.
According to media reports, the new airport in Mirpur (Azad Kashmir) is progressing rapidly, with the feasibility study nearing completion, meanwhile, the land acquisition has already begun in Dera Ismail Khan.
This airport is expected to improve air connectivity in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and nearby areas.
In Hyderabad, the government has directed authorities to restart commercial flight operations. Additionally, an aviation training school will be established to help young people develop careers in the aviation sector.
Meanwhile, Sukkur Airport will undergo a complete reconstruction. The goal is to transform it into a major regional hub, strengthening air services across the northern belt of Sindh.
The expansion plan was recently shared with the National Assembly and is considered an important part of the government’s strategy to enhance regional air connectivity.
To ensure international standards, consultants from Japan and Switzerland are involved in the planning and design of these projects.
Officials stated that the expansion will help improve mobility, create jobs, and boost economic activity in underdeveloped regions, according to reports.
