The number of fatalities from Karachi traffic accidents – involving heavy vehicles – has reached 138 this year, as a water tanker struck and killed another motorcyclist near Future Mor in Landhi.
The victim, identified as Muhammad Fasih, died on the spot, while the driver fled but was later arrested by the police officials.
This tragedy follows a deadly dumper truck accident on June 19, when a sand-loaded vehicle overturned on a double-cabin vehicle, killing a woman and a seven-year-old, near Drigh Road.
The crash, caused by speeding and reckless driving of the dumper driver, killed a woman and a child, leaving two others injured in the early hours of the morning.
Earlier on May 31, at least five people, including a college professor, lost their lives in separate traffic incidents across the city. These repeated fatal accidents underline the growing concern over road safety in Karachi.
Dumper trucks have become notorious for reckless driving, with many involved in fatal crashes due to overloading and speeding. Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho recently called for coordinated efforts among institutions.
He pointed to road congestion from ongoing development work and emphasized the Transport Department’s key role in solving these pressing issues.
