Suparco forecasts Muharram moon sighting on June 26

Muharram moon sighting 2025

The Muharram moon sighting 2025 is expected on the evening of June 26, according to Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), which marks the beginning of the new Islamic year 1447 Hijri on June 27.

Suparco reported that the moon will be born on June 25 at 3:32 PM and will be approximately 28 hours old by sunset the next day June 26. The age and timing make it highly likely that the crescent will be visible.

The expected duration between sunset and moonset at Pakistan’s coastal areas is 75 minutes, providing favorable conditions for moon visibility. Suparco’s statement suggests the chances of sighting are very high.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet on Thursday evening to officially confirm the sighting of the Muharram crescent. Zonal committees will hold separate meetings in cities like Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta.

If confirmed, the 10th of Muharram, Youm-e-Ashur, will likely fall on Sunday, July 6. This date holds great religious importance for Muslims in remembrance of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA).
