The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has revealed in its latest data that Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, has been hit by multiple earthquakes this month.
As per the details, a total of 57 earthquakes have been recorded in Karachi since June 1, according to Chief Meteorologist Amir Haider Laghari.
He said the reason for these repeated tremors is the activation of the Landhi Fault Line. While most of the quakes have been mild and not damaging, they have raised concerns among residents across the city.
“There is no way to predict when this series of earthquakes will stop,” said Laghari, noting that seismic activity has increased this month.
He also confirmed that tremors were felt at 3 am last night, which caused panic among citizens in several neighbourhoods of the metropolis, however, no injuries or damage have been reported from any of the recorded quakes so far.
experts believed that Karachi lies near minor fault lines, and occasional tremors are not unusual. However, activation of a fault line in a densely populated urban area like Karachi always demands public awareness and preparedness.
The PMD is closely monitoring the situation and urges the public not to panic but to stay informed through official sources.
Officials recommend that residents learn basic earthquake safety tips, such as dropping to the ground, taking cover under sturdy furniture, and holding on during shaking. People should also prepare emergency kits and identify safe spots in their homes.
As seismic activity continues, the authorities stress the need for building safety checks, especially in older or high-rise structures.
