The National Highway Authority (NHA) has successfully auctioned 68 toll plazas across the country, including Karachi Northern Bypass, in a transparent public auction process.
The auction was held at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad and began at 10:30 a.m., attracting a large number of investors and representatives from the media.
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan issued special instructions to ensure transparency, and he later congratulated NHA officials for carrying out the process in a fair and open manner.
A wide publicity campaign was launched before the event to encourage competitive bidding. The NHA also invited representatives of both print and electronic media to oversee the entire proceedings.
The auction featured toll plazas from various cities including Karachi Northern Bypass, Jamshoro, Saeedabad, Moro, Kandiaro, Ranipur, Sadiqabad, Bahawalpur, Khanewal, Kalashah Kaku, Gujranwala, Jehlum, and Mandra.
Other locations included Nowshera, Mansehra, Hassanabdal, and several points along the Makran Coastal Highway, covering all major national highways and arterial routes under NHA jurisdiction.
Officials noted that the Karachi Northern Bypass toll plaza is a key asset due to its connection with industrial traffic and heavy transport heading to and from the city’s ports.
Minister Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized that such auctions promote fair competition and eliminate the possibility of corruption or monopolistic control over public assets.
The NHA said this new model of toll plaza leasing will generate higher income, which will be used to improve and maintain the country’s national highway infrastructure.
