WhatsApp to add document scanning feature soon

WhatsApp is currently working on a document scanning feature for Android users, according to the latest beta update 2.25.18.29.

This new option will let users scan documents directly through their phone’s camera without using a third-party app.

The feature, which is already live on WhatsApp for iOS (version 24.25.89), is still under development for Android. However, recent screenshots show WhatsApp has started building the same functionality within the app’s document-sharing section.

Once released, users will find a new “Scan Document” option in the share menu, by tapping this, users can access this feature by using the phone’s camera, where users can capture a document either manually or automatically.

Manual mode allows the user to take the picture themselves after adjusting the document’s position and borders.

On the other hand, automatic mode detects the document’s edges and snaps the photo on its own, making the process quicker and easier.

After capturing the document, WhatsApp instantly converts the image into a PDF file.

Users can then send it directly in personal chats or group conversations. All files are saved locally on the phone until shared, and are protected by end-to-end encryption once sent.

WhatsApp uses native Android APIs to process these scans, meaning the process stays private and secure on your device. This will be a handy feature for students, professionals, and anyone needing to share official paperwork quickly.

Although the feature is not yet available for public beta testing, it shows WhatsApp’s push to ensure a consistent and convenient experience across Android and iOS platforms.
