An Air India flight carrying 242 people, including 12 crew members, crashed near Ahmedabad’s Meghani Nagar area, just moments after takeoff. Officials have yet to confirm the number of casualties.
According to Indian Media, the tragic incident so far claimed the lives of 110 passengers, while rescue efforts are currently underway.
The plane was headed to Gatwick airport in the UK, Air India said, while the Indian police officials confirmed that it crashed on a medical college building near the Ahmedabad airport.

According to Air India statement, the plane was carrying 242 passengers, including 169 Indian citizens, 53 British nationals, 1 Canadian, and 7 Portuguese nationals.

Footage from the site shows thick black smoke, as fire and emergency response teams rushed to the scene. At least five fire tenders from various divisions were deployed to douse flames and prevent further damage.
Indian media confirmed that fire control operations began swiftly to contain the blaze and assist the injured. Victims have been shifted to nearby hospitals, though no fatalities or injuries have been officially confirmed yet.
Air India and the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have launched parallel investigations. A technical team is assessing the cause, which remains unclear at this stage.
Following the crash, the flight operation at Ahmedabad airport has been suspended until further notice, as per Indian media.
Authorities are yet to provide further details on the incident, and official confirmation is awaited.
