Karachi mayor made SSWMB a money-making tool: JI

Amer Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, Monem Zafar, criticized the mayor, Murtaza Wahab, and accused him of making the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) a money-making tool.

He accused Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab of using the board as a money-making tool instead of fixing the city’s sanitation issues, saying that SSWMB should be abolished due to its poor performance.

He said a commission was formed in 2013 to oversee waste reforms, but it hasn’t met even once.

Khan blamed the mayor for not relinquishing powers and obstructing town-level functions by outsourcing key services to private contractors.

“You were administrator and mayor for forty months and still won’t let towns operate independently,” Khan said, adding that Jamaat-e-Islami cannot work with what he called “thieves,” referring to PPP and MQM’s political alliance.

He also criticized the federal government, mentioning that the president of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce complained the finance minister won’t even meet business leaders.

“The government has no time for taxpayers,” he added.

Khan reaffirmed that Jamaat-e-Islami will continue its movement for Karachi’s rights, warning of sit-ins and protests if needed.

“We will keep fighting for this city,” he concluded.
