Sindh plans more buses, EV taxis in budget 2025-26

The Sindh government will add more buses in 2025-26, along with introducing electric taxis and scooters as part of efforts to modernize public transport across Karachi and Sindh.

An important meeting was chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon at the Department of Transport and Mass Transit to review existing and new projects under the upcoming budget.

Officials discussed expansion plans for the People’s Bus Service and electric vehicles. Private investors were also briefed on opportunities under the Public-Private Partnership model for launching more transport services.

During the meeting, the department confirmed that the major segment of the Yellow Line BRT near Jam Sadiq Bridge has been completed, while the work on the Red Line BRT will now be accelerated.

Sharjeel Memon announced that Karachi will soon see the arrival of more buses, including modern double-decker models, offering improved options for urban commuters.

He highlighted that successful projects like electric buses and People’s Bus Service are already serving Karachi, and the goal is to expand this network to every area of the city.

Memon stressed the government’s commitment to building a better public transport system. He said every citizen, regardless of location, deserves access to comfortable and modern transport options.

He added that all current projects are designed to streamline Karachi’s traffic and improve the urban mobility system using smart planning and modern technology.

The new EV taxi and scooter initiatives will promote eco-friendly travel, reduce pollution, and create employment in the electric mobility sector throughout the province.

Sharjeel Memon emphasized that the government aims to transform transportation in Sindh by offering affordable, sustainable, and efficient travel options for all segments of society.
