Sea clouds bring hope of rain amid heatwave in Karachi

Karachi Weather

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast light drizzle in Karachi, bringing hope of relief for residents struggling under intense heat and humidity this week.

According to weather analysts, marine clouds have spread across the city’s skyline, making conditions favorable for light rainfall tonight and early tomorrow morning in multiple localities.

Meanwhile, the officials reported that sea breezes are flowing steadily at 25 to 35 km/h, helping spread moisture-laden clouds across Karachi.

Today’s forecast suggests partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 34°C to 36°C. However, high humidity levels are expected to worsen the heat index, increasing the risk of heat stress for outdoor workers and vulnerable individuals.

Despite the anticipated light drizzle in Karachi over the next 12–24 hours, discomfort may persist due to the humid conditions dominating the region.

The brief spell of rain could offer momentary relief, but the city’s weather is likely to remain warm and muggy over the next few days.

Meteorologists have urged residents to stay hydrated and limit exposure to the sun, especially during the peak heat hours.

The forecast comes as Karachi continues to grapple with extreme heat, and many citizens look to the sky for respite in the form of rain.

The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has launched a city-wide rain emergency operation ahead of the monsoon season and warned residents of dangerous buildings in Karachi to evacuate immediately.

The authority has activated a Rain Emergency Centre on the orders of Director General Muhammad Ishaq Khuhro.

A round-the-clock duty roster has been issued to ensure quick responses to rain-related emergencies during the monsoon season.

The SBCA’s Technical Committee for Dangerous Buildings warned that old, damaged, and unsafe buildings may collapse during heavy rainfall.

Residents have been advised to vacate such buildings to avoid tragic incidents like fire, electrocution, or structural failure, SBCA urged.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) in its latest forecast related to rain warned that Karachi will experience extreme heat during June, with no chances of rainfall expected the entire month.
