Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah inaugurated a new 100-bed cardiac hospital in Baldia Town – the 10th facility under the Sindh Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases network (SICVD).
The modern hospital, offering all services free of charge, was completed in under a year after years of delay under Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), but now joins the SICVD network.
During the inauguration, the CM praised SICVD’s progress, calling it the largest public cardiac care system in the world. It serves over two million patients every year at no cost.
The institute operates 10 hospitals and 29 chest pain units across Sindh. These provide a full range of cardiac services including angioplasties, open-heart surgeries, and paediatric cardiology.
Within Karachi, 19 chest pain units function at key points like Nagan Chowrangi, Landhi, Gizri, KIHD, and JPMC. These units ensure faster cardiac emergency responses.
Cardiac care units are active in districts like Umerkot, Kashmore, Thatta, and Jacobabad, bringing lifesaving treatment closer to rural communities.
The CM also announced progress on the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Karachi and new cardiac projects in Dadu, Sanghar, Matiari, and Qambar Shahdadkot.
More broadly, 579 development projects are underway across Sindh, with over 22,000 staff ensuring timely completion. These projects span health, infrastructure, and public services.
Shah also highlighted ongoing legal and administrative hurdles in managing major health institutions devolved to Sindh under the 18th Amendment, including JPMC and NICVD.
